I Loved This Book

I bought this book a year or so ago and somehow it ended up on my library shelf without me actually reading it.

I corrected that this past week and all I can say is

wow

this is a beautiful story.

well written, heart wrenching, character driven...
everything I love about literature.

Tell me
...have you read this novel?

It's an awesome book! Have you read Fever by L.H.A.? It's great too.... Bread and Roses is awesome, but I can't think of the author's name right now. I love hf!!!

Sharon: yes, Fever was also great...I do love historical fiction too!

Tracy: I know! Shall we adore her or hate her for her amazing gift? ah...I guess the first is the way to go.

Hi Tess, no I haven't read it. Is it a YA book? I love the cover.

Not yet, but I adored FEVER 1793. I read it with a summer book club a few years ago, and my girls loved it. To fully understand yellow fever, I had the girls perform the symptoms of the disease (yuck = fun when you're twelve). We'd also have races through the book, looking for quotes that showed examples of things like character growth, etc. The first person to find a quote avoided a disease symptom. The rest slowly acquired each step. Very fun.

And you know I love that cover. ;)

Meghan: yes, YA (though the main character is quite young, the slavery theme pulls it up a bit in readership age. really, any audience would benefit from this one)

Caroline: that's right! same artist as your cover...so, so, so cool. and, love the game idea.

I think everyone needs to stop recommending books until I can catch up! Just kidding. Thanks for the recommendation, Tess. This sounds great. :)

Not yet. But, I'd like to. LHA is a great author. I read "Fever" with my son a couple years ago.

Tess, I've had this on my shelf for over a year as well! I keep meaning to read it but just keep getting distracted by so many good books coming out. Thanks for the review . . . I will definitely read it THIS year! :)
