Free Stuff Friday & Mantras

*

Welcome to another fabulous Free Stuff Friday!

I've been absolutely dying to give away this fantastic writerly tool.

It's a post it pen! You can make notes on your manuscript and flag the pages at the same time! Isn't that fabulous?

I got them free from my hubby's work so they have a drug company name on the side...but who cares, right? I have two to give away and here's how we'll play:

A while ago, I wrote this post that talked about how I got my new mantra.

It is:

You are good
You can be awesome
I think you will

I can't tell you how many times since that first day these words have lifted my spirits.

So, to enter our fun contest, leave a comment telling me what your mantra is. What do you say to yourself when you hit a wall or feel a little discouraged? How do you keep that fire going?

My absolute favorite part about blogging is the encouragement we offer one another. It is priceless. Let's lift and encourage today. Let's remind each other that we are not alone in our goals and dreams. Let's feel awesome.

Contest will run through Sunday night when I will randomly pull two names from some kind of hat or tupperware bowl or whatever I can find in my messy kitchen.

My mantra has always been:

No matter what happens, it's been a great ride. Success is what you perceive it to be.

I love blogging for the same reasons!

This is my new one: Choose confidence. Play your game.
--borrowed from Toni McGee Causey's fabulous post: http://www.murderati.com/blog/2009/9/6/confidence.html)

P.S. I see that there is a ) that shouldn't be on the end of that link. Mea culpa

Great post. My mantra is: this is happening for a purpose, find the reason not the cause.

My mantra which never fails to gain enthusiasm and remind me to reach for my goals is:

Have wings, will fly. Have Muse, will write.

Yes, I meant the capital M of muse. She's real, and here.

My mantra:

'I do know how to write.'

Wow, there are lots of quotes and things I like, but I don't know that I've defined an exact mantra. Maybe something like this:

You have worth. Now make it count.

Happy weekend, Tess!

Only you see the world quite like this. Now, write it.

Hi! I use the same one I give to my Kids, changing the last bit.
Here it the one I give to my kiddles:
You are magnificent and your mother loves you.

Here is the one I say to myself:
You are magnificent and your family loves you, keep writing.

My absolute new mantra, that I blogged about today, are they lyrics from the song Defeated by Anastacia . . .

'You can tear me apart, rip me to pieces, try breaking me down, but I'll never be beaten . . . because I, can't, be, DEFEATED!"

Jill Kemerer said...

Here's my mantra:

God is with me. God is helping me. God is guiding me.

It's my lifeline! Have a terrific weekend!

LazyWriter: life is so much about perception, isn't it? Excellent thought.

Tricia: I love the implication of strategy and control in your mantra.

Barb: very insightful. Your mantra gave me pause and really made me think about the challenges we come up against...you know, the why of it instead of the what.

Yunaleska: of course a capital M! love it.

Martin: simple, to the point. very suiting to what I know about you. I like it.

Janna: so many good thoughts! I love this one too..the part about making it count. We have been given talents for a reason, right? I believe so, anyway.

Wendy: So, so true. That is how you can have similar novel premises and yet the two stories will be vastly different. It is our insight, our voice that makes us unique and valuable as writers. well said.

Suzanne: you, girl, are magnificant. And, I love love that you say that to your children.

Scott: I don't know this song .. will have to click over to napster and check it out. I love the passion in the lyric and agree it makes a fantastic mantra!

Jill: A mantra that centers and brings all things full circle. Very nice.

These are great! Corey's cracks me up. I think mine is similar to Barb's: Everything happens for a reason.

Never give up.
Never,
never,
never give up.

I really like Amy's. That's one of my favorite quotes. I tend to tell myself:
"You can do this. You can do this. Get busy doing it."

My mantra doesn't necessarily apply for me to get me motivated, but it helps me approach my writing in the right way:

Love, Love, Love

Whenever I find myself portraying my characters in a bad light--I tend to examine people I don't understand--I remind myself that everyone has their good side, and that's what I try to write about.

P. S. Tess, we fixed the middle grade category. Sorry for the mistake!

Umm...easier said than done!

"Never give up, never surrender." I love that movie. Must track down a DVD copy of it.

Sarah said...

"Just write. Just WRITE. You can always fix it."

Novice Writer, I love Galaxy Quest!!!!! I have a DVD of it, and I laugh every single time I see it.

Wow . . . I never really thought about having a mantra, Tess. And there are so many quotes I take inspiration from! But . . . if I had to give my own personal mantra, it would probably be:
"Never give up!"

AND

"You've come too far to quit now."

Love these Free Stuff contests of yours, Tess! :)

Sarah, it's one of the best sci-fi movies out there, imo! Love it!

How many curtain calls? Love the movie!

All the crap I've been through made me into me and I'm a fairly nice person, a loyal friend, a good mother, and a very good wife.

Wow, thanks for sharing, guys! I am loving these super encouraging words! Very inspirational :)

Awesome pen! I saw those in the Office Depot catalog and didn't order them for the office, but tucked them away in the back of my mind to look for when shopping for myself someday soon. It's nice of you to distribute them. :-) I like your mantra. I guess I need a new one. I used to use the "I love myself" mantra I heard of in the past. Maybe I should start again.

Mine is: Every little bit helps.

(Kind of like the journey of a thousand miles starts with one step, or little bricks build big walls.....)

I might not be able to give much time on any given day to writing, but every little bit helps!

Mantra? Yeah, I used to do the mantra thing alot. Recently my brain has felt numb. I should say it more. I used to say: I will think, talk, and act like the successful person that I want to be. This was high school. Now, it's more like: Own the moment and let it pass through you. This basically means that I will not deny the problem (which I like to do), but instead I will acknowledge whatever the problem is, feel the pain of it, and let it pass through me. This is not a quick fix mantra that somehow makes everything okay. Rather, it requires me to face reality and to hold fast to the goal even though that may require pain. Somehow acknowledging that pain is part of the process makes it okay. I used to embrace pain more, but somehow as an adult I got soft. Now, I see that you do have to be tough. Somehow, I've got the story of Dune and Rocky all meshed together in this philosophy.

I've missed the contest but my current mantra is: You are exhausted. You should sleep more.
