I left the first ten pages of my new WIP on the kitchen table last night. I printed it out to do a little review and revision.
This morning, when I woke up, it was still on the kitchen table, but now it had pen marks scribbled across the top.
They were from my husband.
He wrote:
You are good.
You can be awesome.
I think you will.
How's that for a mantra? Say it with me, "I am good. I can be awesome. I think I will."
It is hopeful, inspiring and motivating.
What's your mantra?

I think that is the hottest thing a husband can do. Man. I hope you hugged and kissed the devil out of him for that!!!
My mantra is, "I think I can, I think I can." Hey it worked for the little red engine.:0) Your hubby is sending awesome vibes your way, girl. Yeah!
I think that's one of the sweetest things ever! Awww. My mantra is "I can write better than this..." And I'm not talking about my own writing. :)
Your husband rocks!
That's sweet! Very true. I follow Lady G's view :)
This is so sweet. I love it.
<3 <3 <3!!!

Very cool! He's getting points, isn't he? :D

What a sweet thing to leave for you!
(Smacks self on forehead)A mantra! Why didn't I think of that? Mine is usually a vague, "You can do this" or something similar.
Lady Glamis, I like yours too. I've said that a few times myself.
Hooray for all the supportive spouses. I've got one too.
I'm making my partner read your blog post. I want some inspiring words written on the manuscripts he sneaks out of my office to read when I'm not there! Yes, he does.
The words are inspiring! I think I'll post them on my bulletin board!

Give him a big smooch for me. Love it.
That's awesome! What a wonderful husband :D
What a great mantra, and what a great hubby for writing that.
That is sweet :o) Whenever I find scribbled notes it's from my children. Usually in an illegible scrawl.
okay...mr. hilmo is incredible. this response is for him:
keep it up. that's exactly what your wife needs to hear ALL the time! what a great support you are. kudos.
That's sooooo sweet! He's a keeper!

Its nice to have encouragement. You can do it.
Awwwwe. Sniff. That's so cool.
That's so sweet. I love that he took the time to read it and comment. Encouragement is what keeps us going when the inner naysayer rears his ugly head. I tell myself "I can do it. I have the ability. Keep working."
That is awesome! Supportive husbands are invaluable!
That is the cutest thing ever! I love your hubs!
Yes, he's a keeper. Thanks for the comments guys. I'm serious about making it my mantra...and I like some of the ones you all have written. It helps to have actual words instead of a generalized thought...at least it does for me :)
Wow ... what a great hubby!!! :-)
Your husband is awesome! This might be my favorite blog post ever :)
Beloved Spouse Creatures are the best!
That is a great mantra (and a great husband)! I think it finds the balanace between celebrating progress and being committed to even more improvement.
Wow, that is awesome! Good husband!
That is SO sweet! We used to have a saying, "Do you look good? Do you feel good? Are you trying hard?" I even had keychains made up with our little saying on them.
you are lucky to have a man like that. Mostly i get rolling eyes and a 'what did you say' when i talk about writing or anything writing related.
Friends: It was a nice thing, for certain AND it has made me think about what I am doing...if I am being as supportive to my hubby, kids, friends... Good thoughts to have.
Danyelle - I will now and forever call him my beloved spouse creature. That phrase rocks.
Paige - love your mantra!
and, Monica...it's been 18 years of 'training' - lol. but, seriously, I'm not afraid to ask him point blank to be more supportive or outline what I need. Amazingly, when I do it with a nice smile, he responds.
