WIP Wednesday

So, my WIP has been put on the back burner and my manuscript, With A Name Like Love has taken center stage with revisions.

They are going well so far and I can see the wisdom in the suggestions. It'd be much easier if I didn't ever have to revise, but who has that journey?!?

Today I thought I'd share a snippit from the novel - this is part of my revision work from yesterday

A bit of background: This scene takes place the morning after a fire. Ollie is the MC and oldest daughter of the good Reverend Everlasting Love. Gwen is her younger sister who longs to be a preacher herself. forgive bloggers lousy formatting. I have no control over it.

Ollie walked over to her sister. “He didn’t mean it,” she said. “He’s just out of sorts, that’s all.”

Gwen looked up, her dark lashes heavy with tears. “Yes he did,” she said. “He didn’t even see me.”

“You know that’s not true. Daddy loves you, Gwen.”

“Maybe.” She lifted her hem to her eyes and blotted the tears. “But he’d love a son more.”

“You can’t say that.”

“Can’t I? If I were a boy, he’d let me shadow him – teach me the trade. He’d see me, Ollie. At the heart.”

“I see you, Gwen.”

Gwen pointed out across the camp where their mama sat, looking suddenly lost. Heavy lines marked her brow and the corners of her mouth drooped down in worry. “Don’t worry about me,” she said in classic Gwen form. “Worry about her.”

Ollie reached down and gave her sister a hug. “Why don’t you talk to him?” she whispered in her ear.

Gwen lifted a single shoulder and forced a little smile. “Really,” she said. “Go to Mama.”

onward with the work....how goes your WIP these days???

It's very well done, Tess! I definitely want to know how it turns out!

I love reading teasers. The only problem is, now I want to read more!

I love picturing her mouth drooping down with worry. Almost at 60,000. Hoping to get to 75 by Sept. end. I think I can. I think I can.

*snort* I totally read your post title as RIP Wednesday! Colored me red when I realized what you really were talking about...

Great excerpt! I can already sense some really good family dynamics.

That was a great excerpt! My WIP is going good I suppose, for just beginning. I came up with a simple outline and developed the characters some. And wrote about one page :)

Here's to editing! That's what I'm doing too. Line editing on paper, actually. It's a blast.

I heart you and your book. Revision is tough. Brava.

My WIP is finished in my head. Why not on the paper? Hmmmmmmm?

Thanks for your comments, friends.

It's hard to put your work out there for others to read .. this is a first draft of a revised area and this morning I woke up with some ideas of how to tweak it to improve it a little bit more.

Glad to hear some WIP progress out there. Your writing inspires me to keep at it. Let's get to it!! :)

Very nice excerpt, Tess! Hang in there with the revisions. I know it's hard work, but hopefully you will like your book even more when you're through. I'm in the very beginning stages of a new book. I'm compiling a list of elements I want to include, just things that delight me when I find them in other stories. It's an exciting time!

Oh my goodness! So good! Can't wait to see this as a book so I can read it. Good luck with the revisions. :D

Your characters are lovely, Tess. So fully developed.

My WIP is at almost 15,000 words, about 1/2 way.

Beautiful story! Thanks for sharing! I can only imagine how hard it is to wade through the revisions!

Love the snippet! Can't wait to read the whole thing when it's published.

We're in revisionland too. We think we've got the revisions mapped out, but we're going to discuss with Mayjah Agent first.

You know I love your book and how wonderful I think it is. Great choice for an excerpt!

Oooh I love the excerpt! The title is insanely wonderful too - that alone would make me pick it up from the shelf!

Pretty good. I had to set aside the ms. I was working on when an agent said he'd be interested in looking at my work if I completely revised it. So I had to go back to that book and that's taking some time. I'm not very good with revisions!

I'm with you in revision spirit. :) Love the scene you posted! :)

Tess, My WIP is dissapointingly falling a wee bit behind. *sigh* and I thought summer would rock.

You're a powerful writer--nice emotion. I'm still in revising yuckyland. So tired of it. So tired. I really want to delve into a new story, but I won't let myself until this one is as good as it can possibly be.

That was great, I really enjoyed it! Now I want more, are you sure you can't give us more? Kidding. Some people...give them an inch and they want a yard.

My WIP? Ahh well, it's on the back burner for a while.

Like you, WIP is on the backburner while I revise completed manuscript. I liked the teaser. How far are you on revisions?
