The Truth About Me

*
LT Elliot tagged me for a fun game.

10 things about myself
in no particular order

10. I have two sisters named Debbie (ok, they are technically half sisters - but still)

9. When I was little and loading the dishwasher, I had to separate the forks, knives and spoons because I was afraid the knives would hurt the forks and the forks would hurt the spoons. They all had to be in their own compartments, for their safety.

8. I prefer even numbers, my favorite being 24.

7. I am a deep believer in a God who is patient, loving, forgiving and joyous.

6. My first job was at Baskin Robbins. When I applied, I didn't know my social security number so wrote my mom's work phone number instead. It got me in a little bit of IRS trouble.

5. I met my dad when I was 16.

4. I bought my wedding dress months before my sweetheart proposed. We hadn't even talked marriage yet - but I knew. My mom was with me and we bought it in NYC. What a great story that is....

3. My daughter is a better writer than I am and I absolutely love that.

2. I started writing my first novel in 5th grade. It was a jailhouse love story. Never finished it.

1. I find great joy in the success of others. Share your triumphs with me, I love celebrating friends.

Questions: Do we have anything in common? Does anything surprise you?Would you like to play along on your blog? If so, consider yourself tagged!

I started writing really young, too. And I think both my kids will grow up to be better writers than me 8)

I'm so glad God is forgiving. I need that. A lot.

9. I wanted top separate them as it seemed more practical.

7. Amen

2. I wrote a whole series of novellas when I was fourteen. Thankfully they have all been lost.

Thanks for sharing.

3. Absolutely! I love to read her stories, I am not even a bit jealous. Her lovely, young body yes... her writing I could eat up forever!

AND: I knew my dad when I was a little bit of a thing, but "met" him when I was 17.

My mom thinks I'm a better writer than she is too. I disagree. I wish she'd jump in there and write but she just lacks dedication.

What an interesting list!

I absolutely loved these. The one about the knives and forks had me laughing something good. Oddly enough I prefer even number too. 28 or 82 here.

Natalie - so you are an odd numbers girl? cool.

T.Anne - sure thing!

SolvangSherrie - don't you love that part of families? I think sharing talents is another way that we are subtly tied to each other and I love that.

Martin - yes, far more practical. And, you lost your early writings too? oh no! honestly, I wish I still had them..they would provide for humorous dinner party fodder :D

Suzanne - your older daughter I presume? might Tess grow to be a writer as well????? And, what are the chances of our father coincidence? how interesting. I, too, knew the man (briefly) who was my dad but wasn't 'introduced' to him as my dad till 16. he died last year and I have some regret over missed opportunities in our relationship. wish life had a reverse button sometimes...

Stephanie - keep encouraging her. I bet your mom gets a lot of satisfaction out of seeing you pursue this writing dream. Moms are neat that way

Corey - glad you liked it. who will post 10 things about them on their blog??

Wendy - oh, I like 28 and 82. Good choices there. and, glad you got a giggle :D

I love your 10 things! They are unique and awesome! And very funny about the wedding dress!

Tess,

I have a sister and stepmother who are both named Elaine. For a few years they had the same last name too, and it was very confusing!

I went to live with my dad when I was 16. I met my husband the same weekend. (We didn't get married until we were 30. The early part of our relationship involved a lot of ignoring each other, followed by drama. It's a long story.)

Okay, now I need to hear this jailhouse love story. Consider my appetite whetted!

Were the knives bullying the forks? Just thought I'd ask.

Thanks for the smiles!

The jailhouse love story bit had me scratching my head, but omg did I laugh at the Baskin Robbins story. I don't know if I had my ssn memorized when I was 16, either.

PJ - glad you liked them. Might you play along??

Michelle - wow, that's interesting. having the same last name, too would really throw a wrench into things :D. And, your story about meeting your husband when you went to live with your dad sounds very intriguing... maybe there is a novel in there somewhere??

Jill - it wasn't worth reading, I promise you. And, yes, the knives were bullying the forks ;)

TereLiz - remember, I was 9 so I didn't understand much about how prisons worked. It was a female inmate and a male worker. I got all of 30 pages or so written. funny stuff.

Okay, okay, I get the spoon and fork thing. But, really, don't you think the knives and forks could get along? I loved that!

The social security number problem is quite the hoot too!

Oh, what a great list. Some things we have in common are that I also had my first job at Baskin Robbins. It lasted a week. And I am also a believer in a loving, forgiving, patient and joyous Father in Heaven. I am still regretting that I missed meeting you in person. Hopefully, I'll get another chance!

I love this! You were a deeply caring person at such a young age. :D This just further reinforces how awesome you are. :D

Basking Robbins - what a great first job! My first job was at a Boston Market.

I also think you should really finish that jailhouse love story - those three words were enough to totally sell me on it;)

Tess said...

Aretha - yes, I'm wierd. Then it was the utensils in the dishwasher, I'm over that now but there's still other wierdness lurking :D

Davin - no! the knives are the meanest of all. they have jagged points. the poor forks wouldn't stand a chance - lol.

Angie - how could you quit B&R after a week? I loved that job - I got to eat all of my mistakes and I made a lot of "mistakes" ;)

Kate - I love Boston Market and wish they had them where I live now. Their beans and potato salad...yum!

Danyelle - so sweet of you to take that angle. others think I'm a little wierd, you'll find it caring. that says something really wonderful about you and how you view others. :)

You're right. I much prefer tagging and learning more about you. =] I think I'll have to do likewise.
I still separate my silverware. Old habits die hard.

I think I need to hear the story of the wedding dress. I also love to hear of others' success. And, I think YOU ROCK.

Great list. I think everything was unique and interesting and thus surprised me. But I don't really know you, so anything you could've said would've surprised me. :) I'm a fan of odd numbers by the way, my favorite being 33. :)

And how cool is that that you have TWO sisters named Debbie?
