Today's Wish I Knew Wednesday is one you may have already heard of
but, if not -- you're going to be oh, so happy!
It's the amazing website called statcounter.
Statcounter.com is a site that allows you to track your blog visitors. You can see how many people are coming to which pages....where they are coming from....how they are finding you, etc.
My favorite feature is the keyword analysis. Click on that little baby and a list of google search words come up.
One time someone found my blog by typing "Tess Fingers"
seriously? what on earth are those?? a cookie? wafer? land mass jutting into the sea? what was that person looking for???
Another time someone typed "what do do when publicly humiliated". That one broke my heart and kept me awake worrying for this unknown person for over a week. *sigh* The reason it linked to my blog was because I had a post titled 'What a little public humiliation will do'. I said a few prayers hoping that person found whatever help they were seeking.
The best part of statcounter is that they have a FREE option. That's right - free!
Just head on over and sign up for the free account. It's pretty easy and straightforward.
But, I warn you ... It's addicting!

I love statcounter! It is amazing and fun to see who has come to my site. Plus it emails me on Thursdays (telling me my numbers) so I feel loved. =)
Love statcounter, but I didn't know about the keyword thing! Now I'm going to go poking around there to find out what's up! Thanks, Tess!
I've heard of people wasting hours on statcounter. I'm just not that into it. I think it's because it's smarter than me, and that scares me a little bit. Or something.
I am looking to avoid anything writing related right now (thus my blog commenting at night), so maybe I'll go check it out. ;-)
I use sitemeter but it's all good, right? Except for when it's addicting. And then it's all bad (but feels so good.)
Ooooooo.... guess where I'm going right now! And thanks again for sliding into our contest last minute. It means alot to have you join us in that adventure.
thankyou! I didn't know about this.. now I do! Thankyou I will add immediately!
another addiction... just what I need :)
I'll have to give this a whirl. Not that I'm a tech-obsessed-geek or anything.
I use Google Analytics and get much of the same information. I like knowing if a facebook post or someone else's link to the blog brought in more traffic. I've stopped obsessing about it, but my favorite thing is the map of the world that shows where all the visitors are coming from.
I just added Stat Counter last week, but I haven't looked at the keyword thing yet. Thanks for the tip!
so, how about I have this and Google Analytics and haven't checked it in a month? I need to do that today and see what's changed!
Hmmm...I better stay clear of it then. LOL!
I didn't know about the keyword anaylsis before. Cool. Love it. Thanks for bringing it up.
I know you have told me about this before. I'm heading over now before I forget again. Sheesh! And I didn't do a Wish I Knew this week, so I linked my house to my pal Tess's house. Talk to you soon. =)
Oh, the addiction that is statcounter. I'm all about the averages. Oh dear, you've introduced me to some new features on it.
Heard of it. Haven't yet gotten it. Probably will. I'm curious as a cat!
I <3 stat counter, but hadn't tried the keyword analysis. Thanks for another great way to avoid my revisions!! :)
I love stat counter and I've used it since I started blogging. I've gotten Cindy Wilson horse and Cindy Wilson robber recently. Yeah, that makes me feel great :D
StatCounter is great fun. And actually pretty informative. I love the map--I'm always checking for hits from New York City :).
I'm afraid to know how much I stalk myself.
I'm going to have some Tess fingers for dessert tonight.
This is the first Wish I Knew Wednesday I was actually already familiar with. Go me!
My wordpress blog has some type of stat counter built in so it's in my face anytime I'm working on a post. Once someone found my blog by doing a search for: "Getting bitten by an alligator lizard"
I haven't tried it out. I probably should just for fun, but I'm afraid it would be another time-sucker for me.
That poor humiliated guy!
I love statcounter too, it's funny what searches bring people to the blog!
You are so helpful, Tess!
Tess--Statcounter is so much fun. Thanks for helping me with it last week.
I currently use Google analytics for that stuff. Although Stat counter might be more robust, I don't know.
I've also downloaded 3 or so stat counter type thingies onto my blog. I tend to lose track of those things after while (bad, I know). They are invisible & I forget they're there, but they're quietly ticking away, keeping track all the time. Kind of like Big Brother. I need to use 'em or lose 'em.
I've used Statcounter ever since starting my blog in 2007. They are WONDERFUL to work with!
lol. You're so cute. I'm sure the public humiliation had nothing to do with you. I hadn't heard of this site, but I'm gonna try it. :)
Ooh, this could be fun, although sometimes I don't like to know too much about these sort of things. What if someone typed in "Amy Saia is a big idiot" or something like that? Yikes.
Oh well, I gotta do it now. I'm too curious not to.
Oh this is dangerous! Beware everyone! Statcounter is like crack for aspiring writers.
Very cool, Tess! Thanks for sharing! Now I'm off to check it out. : )
I've known about this, but haven't done it because of the addiction possibility...there's a site I go to that has nothing to do with me, but it has a counter and I go to the site JUST TO CHECK OUT THE COUNTER!
Glad this was of some help to some of you. Hope you are all having a great weekend and getting a lazy Sunday nap. that's my goal!
I just added statcoutner - its way better than easycounter! Thanks for the tip
