A Pensive Pause

*
Thanks to everyone who cheered me up. It's tough losing $100,000....

and extra thanks to Davin and others who know me well enough to catch it was a little bit tongue in cheek. I'm not really about the money -- but the fact that an opportunity slipped away did sting.
*
Three thoughts today:

"Don't confuse fame with success.
Madonna is one.
Helen Keller is the other." Erma Bombeck

"It takes 20 years to make an overnight success." Eddie Cantor

and, last but not least:

"If at first you do succeed...
try not to look too surprised" anon.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHARE your favorite quip, quote or thought in the comments today, I'd love to have a pensive pause in my week :D

My dad always used to say, "If at first you don't succeed, fry...fry a hen." And, no, I have no idea what it means, but it's fun to say nonetheless.

I don't have any favorite quotes off the top of my head but I like Mark Twain quotes quite a bit. They're witty and snarky and usually make me laugh.
Glad you're feeling better! See you soon!

here are two of my fav writing quotes:

"If I fall asleep with a pen in my hand, don't remove it – I might be writing in my dreams." - Danzae Pace

"When you write, try to leave out all the parts readers skip." – Elmore Leonard

Hehe, that's going to be my new motto "If at first you do succeed, try not to look too surprised." I can't say it's ever happened to me, but hey, no harm in being prepared!

Hey Tess, love your 3 quotes.
Jeannie, love that one by Leonard.

'The best is yet to come' I don't know if someone famous has said it

It's from my dad Tess. "The first hundred years are the hardest."

And it's NEVER about the money with us writers, though a little compensation is nice. :-)

It's ironic that Charlie Chaplin--the silent screen star--would have some great quotes.

“Failure is unimportant. It takes courage to make a fool of yourself.”

“Life is a tragedy when seen in close-up, but a comedy in long-shot.”

And here's one from Dr. Seuss:

“Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.”

The third one totally cracked me up.

Here's a little Miley (yes, I have an 11 year old girl)

"Ain't about what's waitin' on the other side;
it's the climb."

Sorry, it's early and that's the best I could do!

The children were lined up in the cafeteria of a Catholic elementary school for lunch. At the head of the table was a large pile of apples. The nun made a note, and posted on the apple tray, "Take only one. God is watching."

Moving further along the lunch line, at the other end of the table was a large pile of chocolate chip cookies. One child whispered to another, "Take all you want. God is watching the apples."

I miss Erma Bombeck! Here's another one:

"I have a theory about the human mind. A brain is a lot like a computer. It will only take so many facts, and then it will go on overload and blow up."

This is exactly why I want a "defrag" function and a cleanup wizard for my brain. Why, oh why am I wasting valuable space with commercial jingles from the 80's?

That third quote is great, Tess! And, for the record, I'd like to say that I consider Madonna to be quite successful! :)

Good post, Tess. Really sorry you missed out on the pet story, but wait...you do have a book coming out. :)

"You can do this." A quote from a dear friend when I was going though a tough transition...

My current favorite quote comes from the bible (John 5:11): "Pick up your mat and walk." As in, stop feeling sorry for yourself, holding a grudge, etc. and get on with your life.

"Love strikes when one least expects it with whom one least expects."

I made that bad boy up while sitting in my high school French class. Full of pride, I shared it with Lisa and she said I definitely stole it from somewhere.
