Funny Friday and a Personal Moment

*
I like (okay, I don't like but I do it anyway) to get up with my kids and make them a hot breakfast before school. My oldest heads off to High School early - her breakfast is at 6:15, so I'm usually up half hour before that slinging hash or flipping cakes.

I think of it as a little mommy gift.

So, you can imagine my surprise when they are occasionally grumpy and surly and complaining.

shocking, I know.

One day this week, my teen woke up especially moody. She hurumphed through the breakfast, complained that I hadn't done laundry (erm, skooz me .. do your own) and left to the bus in a huff.

I was down.

I was feeling unappreciated. Walked on.

You know, like a mom.

Then around 10:00, we had this texting conversation:

her: I was wrong. I'm sorry. Will you forgive me?

me: (In compete shock, tears in eyes, fumbling w/ the tiny letters on my tiny phone) Already done. I'm sorry too....

her: It was really considerate of you to get up early and make waffles (it was pancakes, but who cares at this point)

me: how did you text so fast? (it came in less than one second)

her: I was already txtng when I got ur message

me: oh, I thought you were maybe a ninja

her: yeah, that too

me: luv U. sorry I have to get back to class, I'm spoz'd to be paying attent'n and not txtng. OH WAIT, thats not me. That's U.

her: So we're clear: I'm a ninja. Ur a comedian.

And then all was right again.

How precious! You are A WONDERFUL mom. We're out the door at 7:15, and my kids get juice and cereal. If I made them waffles that early, they would think it was Saturday!

Love that! Loving it. My girl told me last weekend that she hopes she gives me the flu...she gave it to me alright!

Tess, no way you're old enough to have a teenager. Pfft!

The exchange between you and said teen makes me giggle, and warms my heart. That shows me you're doing something right, no matter how many "wrong" things the grumpies point out. Thanks for sharing this little story!

That is so sweet. I have had several text conversations with my teens that make me so glad that texting was invented.

It's a small enough space to say what you really need to say without all of the eye-rolling that might appear in person.

Happy Friday!

So sweet! And...wow. I'm in awe of your hot breakfast making. That is strictly an (occasional) weekend treat in our family. :)

This brought tears to my eyes. I grounded my son (10) this morning right before he walked out of the door. It makes me so sad all day long. I hate morning crap. I'm glad you've blogged about this--something to look back on the next time she's being a teenager, and you're being her mother...

Amy: nah, it's not much. and Sat is the sleep in day here .. if they woke me early, I'd be a bear ;)

Caroline: sweet daughter, I think. how often does a 15 y/o initiate the apology? It was a rare and special occasion .. haha

Wendy: ha! that cracks me up (but sorry you got sick)

Janna: well, she's 15 so I must of had her when I was 14 (that would make me 29, right?) er..yeah, that's right ;)

Storyqueen: exactly!

Karen: like I said, flip it in my house. Sats are for sleeping in and cold cereal ... ah, I love those days.

Heather: we relate to each other, clearly. It's tough being the mom and I hate the grumpy mornings, too.

Janice: thanks, it was a priceless moment. making something sweet out of a tough situation, I guess.

Omigosh, how many conversations like that have I had? Aren't teenagers wonderful? I honestly think they're the most fun people to know. Not all the time obviously, but they have some gems of moments, that's for sure!

What a sweet texting story. The conscience is a dear thing, especially in teens.

Thanks guys :D. It's been fun to share a bit on the more personal side and I really wanted to record this for her someday...and, since I'm lousy at keeping a journal the blog will have to do. Hope you are having a great weekend!

OH MY GOSH. I love this. I think you need to write a book about parenting. After reading this, I'd totally buy it!
